Share a lesson you wish you had learned earlier in life.

My mother received a letter from school in 1984. The letter indicated that I had been sexually abused as a 6-year old first grader.
My mother did not report the abusers. They were other children that learned about sexual abuse from somewhere. They sexually abused me, Courtney and Murph in 1984-1985.
When my mother refused to report the rapists in 1984 my six-year-old brain broke. I was a rule-follower. I still am. I was a little Mormon kid, taught that honesty and hard work were our core values.
Seeing my mother break the rules and lie about the sexual abuse taught me that no one is coming to save me. I waited for her to save me.
She never did.
If you are being abused, save yourself. Go to a teacher and tell them everything. They are bound by law to report the abuse.
Do not stop telling people until you are safe.
No one is coming to save us.
